USITC

US International Trade Commission

Definition

The USITC is an independent federal agency that maintains the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) and conducts a range of trade-related investigations, including injury determinations in AD/CVD cases and Section 337 patent-infringement cases. The USITC publishes the HTSUS in revisions multiple times per year; the current revision is the authoritative source for every duty rate CBP applies. The USITC also operates the Electronic Document Information System (EDIS) for Section 337 case filings. Industry analysts use USITC's DataWeb portal for historical trade data. The agency is governed by six commissioners appointed for staggered nine-year terms.
