Steel & Metals Import Tariffs
Steel and metals face some of the most significant US tariffs. Base MFN rates are modest at Free to 6.5%, but Section 232 tariffs add 50% on steel, aluminum, and copper — doubled from the original 25% in 2025. Critically, Section 301 does NOT stack on top of Section 232 for the same product. Section 122 adds 10% globally. USMCA does not exempt metals from Section 232. Over 80% of Chinese metals exports face the combined rate.
