HTS Chapters 29-30

Pharmaceuticals Import Tariffs

Pharmaceuticals have historically enjoyed low base tariff rates of Free to 6.5%. However, a major escalation is underway: Section 301 tariffs on Chinese-origin pharmaceuticals and APIs will reach 100% effective July 31, 2026. This is significant because approximately 80% of active pharmaceutical ingredients are sourced from China and India. Section 122 adds 10% globally. Generic drug prices are expected to rise substantially.
