Customs entry

Definition

A customs entry is the filing made with CBP that declares an import shipment, claims a classification, and pays (or commits to pay) the applicable duties. There are multiple entry types — consumption entry (the standard for goods entering commerce), warehouse entry, FTZ admission, immediate-transportation entry, and others. The most common entry type is the formal consumption entry (entry type 01), filed electronically via the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). An entry includes the HTS classification, declared value, origin, importer of record, and the duty calculation. CBP releases the goods on entry but does not finalize the duty until liquidation, which typically occurs 314 days later.
