Section 232 Derivative Recalc
The §232 metals tariff isn't just for raw steel and aluminum. Proclamation 11021 (April 2026) expanded the coverage to an enumerated list of derivative articles — finished goods in Chapters 84, 85, and 94 that contain steel or aluminum content. For those codes, §232 applies to the full customs value, not just the metals content.
Enter any HTS code. Get back a clean classification: primary metals, enumerated derivative, or non-derivative.
Why this matters: if you're importing under Ch 84/85/94 and have been computing duty on the steel-content fraction only, the Proclamation 11021 change can multiply your §232 exposure 5-10×. CBP enforcement is current — entries filed today need the correct recalc.
Common enumerated derivatives to try: 8418.10.00 (combined refrigerator-freezer), 8422.11.00 (dishwashers), 8450.11.00 (washing machines), 8451.21.00 (dryers), 8516.60.40 (cooking ranges).
